Reaction: Peroxynitrite is reduced to nitrite by AhpC

- in pathway: Tolerance by Mtb to nitric oxide produced by macrophages
AhpC is an unusual peroxiredoxin - it has three cysteine residues that participate in the reduction of toxic peroxynitrite to nitrite. In a second step, another thioredoxin or the reductase chain AhpD/DlaT/Lpd is needed for reactivation (Guimaraes et al. 2005).
Reaction - small molecule participants:
H2O [cytosol]
Nitrite [cytosol]
Peroxynitrite [cytosol]
