Reaction: Peroxynitrite is reduced to nitrite by AhpC
- in pathway: Tolerance by Mtb to nitric oxide produced by macrophages 
  AhpC is an unusual peroxiredoxin - it has three cysteine residues that participate in the reduction of toxic peroxynitrite to nitrite. In a second step, another thioredoxin or the reductase chain AhpD/DlaT/Lpd is needed for reactivation (Guimaraes et al. 2005).
