Sulfite oxidase oxidizes sulfite to sulfate which is among the most important macronutrients in cells and the fourth most abundant anion in human plasma (300 micromolar). The enzyme has a molybdenum-molybdopterin cofactor (MoCo) bound (Wilson et al. 2006, Feng et al. 2007).
