Reaction: Persulfide sulfur is dioxygenated

- in pathway: Sulfide oxidation to sulfate
The sulfur dioxygenase ETHE1 converts persulfides to sulfite. Loss of this activity leads to the rare ethylmalonyl encephalopathy where the body can no longer detoxify H2S (Tiranti et al, 2009).
Reaction - small molecule participants:
H+ [mitochondrial matrix]
sulfite(2-) [mitochondrial matrix]
O2 [mitochondrial matrix]
H2O [mitochondrial matrix]
