Reaction: PXKLP-K305-CSAD decarboxylates 3-sulfinoalanine to hypotaurine

- in pathway: Degradation of cysteine and homocysteine
Cysteine sulfinic acid decarboxylase (CSAD) mediates the decarboxylase of 3-sulfinoalanine to produce hypotuarine. CSAD functions as a homodimer and requires pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. Purification, characterisation and activity of CSAD has been determined from rat liver (Guion-Rain et al. 1975).
