Reaction: Unknown lysosomal protease degrades CBLIF:RCbl to release Cbl
- in pathway: Uptake of dietary cobalamins into enterocytes
A lysosomal protease that is inhibited by leupeptin and sensitive to treatment with chloroquine but otherwise uncharacterized hydrolyzes cobalamin binding intrinsic factor (CBLIF, aka gastric intrinsic factor GIF) bound to cobalamins (RCbl), releasing the latter (Fyfe et al. 2004).
