The human gene SLC30A3 encodes zinc transporter ZnT3. Through experiments on the mouse homologue Znt3, it is thought this transporter is expressed mainly in brain and testis and mediated the accumulation of zinc into synaptic vesicles (Palmiter et al, 1996).
