  NLK is activated in response to WNT5A in a CAMK2- and MAP3K7- dependent manner (Ishitani et al, 1999; Ishitani et al, 2003a,b).  Homodimerization is required for NLK autophosphorylation at T298 and subsequent nuclear localization; mutation of C437 abolishes dimerization, kinase activity and nuclear translocation (Ishitani et al, 2011).
