The human gene SLC39A10 encodes the zinc transporter hZIP10. It is thought to be involved in the invasive behaviour of breast cancer cells where depletion of hZIP10 and intracellular zinc levels inhibit the migratory effects these cells (Kagara N et al, 2007). Functional characterization of this transporter was elucidated in the rat orthologue rZip10.
