All functionally characterized TRP channels are permeable to the divalent cation Ca2+ except TRPM4 and 5 (Latorre et al. 2009, Wu et al. 2010). Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily A member 1 (TRPA1) is a homotetrametric channel expressed in the PNS and CNS which involved in pain detection (Moparthy et al. 2014, Paulsen et al. 2015). It acts as a sensor of chemical, thermal, mechanical and somotic stimuli (Zhang et al. 2008).
