Reaction: TRPV1 transports Ca2+ from extracellular region to cytosol

- in pathway: TRP channels
All functionally characterized TRP channels are permeable to the divalent cation Ca2+ except TRPM4 and 5 (Latorre et al. 2009, Wu et al. 2010). Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TRPV1) is a ligand-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel involved in the detection of noxious chemical and thermal stimuli. It is involved in the mediation of inflammatory pain and hyperalgesia (Hayes et al. 2000, Cortright et al. 2001).
