Reaction: SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro dimer cleaves NLRP12

- in pathway: SARS-CoV-2 activates/modulates innate and adaptive immune responses
SARS-CoV-2 nsp5 protease (3CLpro) specifically cleaves NLRP12 at two sites and decreases its level in SARS-CoV-2 infected cells (Moustaqil et al, 2021). NLRP12 normally modulates the expression of inflammatory cytokines through the regulation of the NFκB and MAPK pathways (Wang et al, 2002). NLRP12 is also involved in adaptive immunity and controls MHC class I expression through a yet ill-defined mechanism (Williams et al, 2003).
