Reaction: ADA deamidates RBV

Ribavirin (RBV) undergoes hydrolytic deamination to its carboxylic acid derivative (RBV-COOH, ICN3297), which does not possess any antiviral activity. The reaction is catalyzed by adenosine deaminase (ADA). As the amount of detectable RBV-COOH is low, deamination is not important in RBV catabolism (Miller et al, 1977; Wu et al, 2003).
