Reaction: PANK4 hydrolyzes PPANT to pantetheine

- in pathway: Vitamin B5 (pantothenate) metabolism
Cytosolic PANK4 hydrolyzes (R)-4'-phosphopantetheine (PPANT) to pantetheine (Huang et al. 2016). This reaction, coupled to the hydrolysis of CoA-SH mediated by NUDT enzymes, could play a role in rapidly reducing cellular CoA levels in response to changes in requirements for energy metabolism (Naquet et al. 2020).
