Reaction: I(1,4,5)P3 binds ITPR3 tetramer
One molecule of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (I(1,4,5)P3) binds each subunit of IP3-gated calcium channel type 3 (ITPR3) causing the calcium permeable channel of ITPR3 to open and transport calcium ions from the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum to the cytosol (Maranto 1994, Yoneshima et al. 1997, Paknejad and Hite 2018). The binding of calcium ions to ITPR3 decreases the affinity of ITPR3 for I(1,4,5)P3 (Yoneshima et al. 1997) and calcium bound to two cytosolic sites decreases the channel activity of ITPR3 (Paknejad and Hite 2018).
