Reaction: MTHFR dimer reduces 5,10-methylene-THFPG to 5-methyl-THFPG

- in pathway: Metabolism of folate and pterines
Cytosolic MTHFR dimer catalyzes the reaction of 5,10-methyleneTHF polyglutamate, NADPH, and H+ to form 5-methylTHF polyglutamate and NADP+. The specificity and importance of this reaction in vivo have been established through the study of patients deficient in the enzyme (Goyette et al. 1995).
Reaction - small molecule participants:
NADP+ [cytosol]
5-methyl-THFPG [cytosol]
H+ [cytosol]
NADPH [cytosol]
5,10-methylene-THFPG [cytosol]
